Information for Teachers

The Taste of Medicine website has been designed to help school and college students by providing a range of support including: information, advice and guidance about the variety of healthcare courses and careers; how to maximize chances of progression to a medical or healthcare course, specifically focusing on work experience and communications skills; and how learning and teaching takes place at university.

Virtually There has been developed with Post-16 students in mind, especially those interested in pursuing a career in healthcare given the wide variety of teaching and learning methods used in healthcare university courses. Although it is mainly aimed at those interested in medicine or healthcare, this particular resource has been developed in a way that makes it relevant for all students, irrespective of the subject area they intend to study at university.

Listed below are some hints and tips on how to make the best use of Virtually There with either a specific class or during a careers information session. Previous experience has identified the lesson plan as an effective way of communicating important messages about the differences between further and higher education learning and teaching methods.

We believe that Virtually There will be of particular value for the following groups (noting that this list is not exhaustive):

  • Post-16 students studying specific health and social care courses
  • Post-16 groups with an active interest in studying medicine or healthcare courses
  • Post-16 groups preparing for university applications or interviews (for any course)
  • Year 13 students preparing to attend university in the near future (for any course)

The following simple lesson plan can be used as a guide when you use Virtually There at your school or college. In addition to this plan you might want to use the website in other ways too.
